“Thoughtful and probative in its performance, Mirror centers on the journey of one young woman as she asks the frightening questions about human existence that live within all of us,” said the play’s director, Sarah Lacy Hamilton. “In the face of disheartening political and social controversy, how do we find the common pillars of humanity that could unite us? Where is Truth with a capital T, and how do we hold onto it once we have found it? In Mirror, a young woman earnestly seeks to answer these questions, which are refracted through the haunting awareness that she is a character first and a person second, beholden to the audience and restricted by the whims of the playwright himself.”

Starring local music starlet Sammy Rat Rios and HPT newcomer Lx Werle, Mirror: As if it Were the Moon, is a seventy minute whirlwind of a performance. Werle plays a peaceful, focused B, who appears in comic serenity opposite Rios’ fiery, tenacious A. A is continually frustrated by B, who offers up esoteric proverbs in the attempt to calm A’s ferocious deconstruction of her identity and purpose.

All performances will be held at Deep Vellum Books, an independent bookseller whose mission is to amplify the voices of the local to global communities through writing, art, music, film, performance, and culture. Deep Vellum is located at 3000 Commerce Street.
