Mirror: As If It Were The Moon - House Party Theatre

House Party Theatre is performing the world premiere of Mirror: As if it Were the Moon by local playwright and SMU alum Stephen Gardner. Directed by Sarah Lacy Hamilton, Mirror begins with a press opening on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 8pm at Deep Vellum Books, and continues its run on November 11, 14, 19, 20 and 21.

“Thoughtful and probative in its performance, Mirror centers on the journey of one young woman as she asks the frightening questions about human existence that live within all of us,” said the play’s director, Sarah Lacy Hamilton. “In the face of disheartening political and social controversy, how do we find the common pillars of humanity that could unite us? Where is Truth with a capital T, and how do we hold onto it once we have found it? In Mirror, a young woman earnestly seeks to answer these questions, which are refracted through the haunting awareness that she is a character first and a person second, beholden to the audience and restricted by the whims of the playwright himself.”

Starring local music starlet Sammy Rat Rios and HPT newcomer Lx Werle, Mirror: As if it Were the Moon, is a seventy minute whirlwind of a performance. Werle plays a peaceful, focused B, who appears in comic serenity opposite Rios’ fiery, tenacious A. A is continually frustrated by B, who offers up esoteric proverbs in the attempt to calm A’s ferocious deconstruction of her identity and purpose.

All performances will be held at Deep Vellum Books, an independent bookseller whose mission is to amplify the voices of the local to global communities through writing, art, music, film, performance, and culture. Deep Vellum is located at 3000 Commerce Street.

Performances Scheduled:
Thursday, November 10 at 8pm
Friday, November 11 at 8pm
Monday, November 14 at 8pm
Saturday, November 19 at 8pm
Sunday, November 20 at 8pm
Monday, November 21 at 8pm

The Tribe: Enfranchised Youth, a play by Brigham Mosley

The Tribe and Deep Vellum invite you to attend a workshop showing of a new play by Brigham Mosley, directed by Dylan Key, ENFRANCHISED YOUTH.

Brigham Mosley’s ENFRANCHISED YOUTH is a music and dance infused drama of Squirrel, Pixie, Troutback, Lyle, and Tony all struggling to find love, comfort, and a steady job while simultaneously wishing to throw rocks through the bourgeois glass house of privilege they thrive in. A modern-day RENT with a dash of David Bowie, WHITE CHRISTMAS, and Facebook Live  for the age of Trump and Sanders, ENFRANCHISED YOUTH explores the Millennial conflict between the presumed social call of "radical young artists" vs the comfort of capitalistic middle-class values. The show places a critical eye on identity politics - especially Queer identity politics - and the vocations of artists within the ever-shifting Creative Economy. Join us at Deep Vellum on August 26th at 8:00p for this work-in-progress showing. Seating is free but extremely limited so email producedbyatribe@gmail.com to save a spot.
