The 2017 Women of the World Poetry Slam (WOWPS) will take place in Downtown Dallas, March 15-18. Chosen for its vibrant poetry and art scenes, diverse population, and local resources, Dallas offers the hundreds of participants and attendees a host of amenities. Deep Vellum Books will host the Preliminary Rounds, with the Finals held at The Majestic Theater, and a variety of workshops held at venues across the Downtown and Deep Ellum neighborhoods.

WOWPS will bring women poets from around the country, and Canada, their friends, family, and fans to Dallas for a multi-day, multi-venue, multi-sensory experience. (WOWPS) is an all-woman event created by Women For Women. WOWPS is a four day poetry festival, in which 72 of the best female poets in the world compete against each other over two nights of preliminary competitions (referred to as “bouts”) at Deep Vellum Books. The poets with the top twelve scores from those days move on to Finals at the Majestic Theatre, where one poet is crowned the champion!

In addition to the competition, daytime events feature writing workshops on topics like gender and race, as well as panel discussions on publishing and activism, themed open mics, special nighttime events, and parties.

WOWPS kicks off Wednesday, March 15th with the Last Chance Slam at Quixotic World and culminates with the Women of the World Poetry Slam Finals Saturday March 18th at the historic Majestic Theater.
