Welcome to our final show of the spring season. Join us for this month's edition of Pegasus Reading Series. This month we feature Kendra Allen, Alejandra Ramos Gómez, Simon Han, and Kevin West.
About us: Pegasus Reading Series was founded and curated by the poets Robert Torres and Sebastian Paramo in 2014. When Torres left in 2015, Courtney Marie joined Sebastian to host & curate the series. In 2016, both poets joined forces to organize and curate Deep Ellum Lit Hop. In 2018, Ashley Mag Gabbertt joined to co-host.
The mission of Pegasus Reading Series is to bridge together literary communities and writers in Dallas and across the nation.
Kendra Allen is the author of essay collection When You Learn The Alphabet from University of Iowa Press. She's the winner of the 2018 Iowa Prize for Literary Nonfiction and her work, described as "raw" and "witty," has been published in Brevity, december, and The Rumpus among others. Born and raised in Dallas, TX, Kendra is currently an MFA candidate at the University of Alabama where she is working on her thesis and leading freshman students astray. She still doesn't know what she's doing but you can follow her on Twitter @KendraCanYou.
Alejandra Ramos Gómez is an artist and educator born and raised in the border city of Juarez, Mexico. She is a dual language gifted and talented K-1st teacher and earned her Master’s in Bilingual Education from SMU. Her bilingual poetry is included in anthologies with the Writers’ Association in Juarez, an anthology by Rotary International, a chapter book with Voces Writers through Oak Cliff Coalition for Arts, and the ChachalacaReview. She delivered a TEDx talk about the power of spoken word in her classroom in 2017 and was recognized as 2018 Millennial to Watch on the Dallas Weekly. Alejandra co-hosts Meet me with Curiosity’s Poetry in the Park event at KlydeWarren Park and is a member of Teatro Flor Candela Theatre Company.
Simon Han's debut novel is forthcoming from Riverhead Books. His short stories and essays have appeared in The Atlantic, The Iowa Review, Guernica, Fence, and Electric Literature's Recommended Reading. He has received fellowships and scholarships from MacDowell, the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference, the Sewanee Writers' Conference, and the Toji Cultural Center. He lives in Tulsa, OK, where he is a current Tulsa Artist Fellow.
Kevin West is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of North Texas. His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Ploughshares, The Journal, Ghost Town, Qu, Tampa Review, The Meadow, and elsewhere
