Honoring the dark moon involves exploring parts of the self often kept locked away. It means acknowledging each atom that causes discomfort and transforming that energy into something beautiful. This is the most powerful time to effect change and make art. Dark Moon Poetry & Arts exists to honor the creative feminine and non-binary powers of North Texas. We showcase poetry, music, visual art, and projects that can’t be defined by a single noun. We upset still air.
On January 28, 2016, the first Dark Moon show featured five artists in an Arlington living room. It was a potluck affair where a cat wandered through the house and a baby crawled through poets seated on hardwood.
Over the course of its first year, Dark Moon has grown to be welcomed by the Dallas arts community and featured 43 performers. It was included in The Wild Detectives' Women Galore Festival, the Deep Ellum Lit Hop, and the 2016 Freefall Festival. Deep Vellum Books offered us a home where we could become a permanent part of #LiteraryDallas.
