Jake Skeets, Saúl Hernandez, Benjamin Garcia, and Sebastian H. Páramo will be hosting a poetry reading at Deep Vellum Books!
Jake Skeets is the author of Eyes Bottle Dark with a Mouthful of Flowers, winner of the National Poetry Series, Kate Tufts Discovery Award, American Book Award, and Whiting Award. He is from the Navajo Nation and teaches at the University of Oklahoma.
Saúl Hernández is a queer writer from San Antonio, TX who was raised by undocumented parents. Saúl has an MFA in Creative Writing from The University of Texas at El Paso. He's the winner of the 2021 Two Sylvias Press Chapbook Prize. He's a finalist for Palette Poetry 2020 Spotlight Award. His work is forthcoming/featured in Frontier Poetry, Fourteen Hills, Blue Mesa Review, Foglifter Journal, Oyster River Pages, Poet Lore, Cherry Tree, and more.
Benjamin Garcia is a 2023 National Endowment for the Arts Fellow in poetry. His first collection, THROWN IN THE THROAT, was selected for the National Poetry Series, the Eugene Paul Nassar Poetry Prize, and was a finalist for the Kate Tufts Discovery Award. A CantoMundo and Lambda Literary fellow, he serves as core faculty at Alma College’s low-residency MFA program. His poems and essays have appeared or are forthcoming in: AGNI, American Poetry Review, Indiana Review, Kenyon Review, and New England Review.
Sebastián H. Páramo is the author of Portrait of Us Burning (Curbstone Books, 2023) and was named a finalist for the 2023 Best First Book of Poetry by the Texas Institute of Letters. His poems have recently appeared or will appear in AGNI, Poetry Northwest, The Arkansas International, Prairie Schooner, New England Review, and elsewhere. His work has received fellowships and support from the Dobie Paisano Fellowship Program at UT-Austin, CantoMundo, among others. He is the founding editor of The Boiler and lives in Texas.
